NuStart Lifestyle Strategies
April 12, 2016
“From the beginning, we felt like we had a partner in MutualBank who truly believed in NuStart’s vision and mission."
Dr. Jamie Lindsay (my wife) and I launched NuStart in 2012 with assistance from the Wabash County Economic Development Group and MutualBank. NuStart is a family medicine and lifestyle strategy clinic. Its mission is to provide solution-driven care and deliver lifestyle strategies in the areas of nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management that will move individuals, families, and communities towards better health. Dr. Lindsay and her staff developed an effective lifestyle strategy program from scratch including curriculum and methodology. Patients in and around Wabash and Grant counties have lost thousands of pounds, feel better, and many have reduced their reliance on medication. Dr. Kyle Mazellan, MD, conducted a study on patients who participated in the NuStart program. The study shows that not only did patient’s physical health improve, but their mental and emotional health also significantly improved.

NuStart gives back to its communities by presenting practical tips to implementing healthier habits into everyday life. These presentations were given at the Wabash County YMCA, Wabash County Hospital, The Tree of Life (Marion), and the Parish Nurse Program (Marion General Hospital). Hundreds attended these presentations free of charge. Additionally NuStart is partnering with other Wabash County organizations to launch a new community health initiative, Be Well Wabash County, that will move Wabash County towards better health and wellbeing in an incredible way. Be Well Wabash County exists to collaborate, inspire, and move Wabash County towards better wellbeing by promoting life balance in the areas of Community, Purpose, Mind and Body. NuStart has also been the primary sponsor of the Wabash Farmer’s Market for the last two years.
We understood that it would be easier to generate more revenue more quickly in larger communities but saw that there was a need for NuStart in our own back yard.
Since its launch in 2012, NuStart has grown from its original location in Wabash to an additional location in Marion. Because of the success of these two clinics and the impact they are having on their communities, there are plans to expand to additional communities within the region. Additionally NuStart is launching a corporate wellness service line later this year. Because of the assistance that it has received from MutualBank NuStart is able to serve multiple, underserved communities with a healthcare service that is found mostly in larger cities. Without a good financial partner like MutualBank, NuStart’s success would not have been made possible.
We chose the communities that NuStart serves because they are where she grew up in and came back to. We understood that it would be easier to generate more revenue more quickly in larger, more affluent communities but saw that there was a need for NuStart in her own back yard. MutualBank serves both Wabash and Grant counties too. MutualBank also saw a need for NuStart in these communities and the potential for good that a program like NuStart provides. From the beginning we felt like we had a partner in MutualBank who truly believed in NuStart’s vision and mission. NuStart looks forward to continue working together with MutualBank to provide a better future for the people in the communities we serve.
